Where should I live?/ Neighbourhoods to stay

Regarding the city center or Getafe/Leganés, it depends on what you are searching for. Some students live around the campus (you have to search which one will be your campus), which is cheaper, but there is not so many life. Some other students prefer to live in the city center, which is more expensive but you have more things to do.

Regarding neighbourhoods, in general the city center is similar and safe. The housing around the universities is also safe.

ESNcard and Office Hours

The ESNcard is the card of the Erasmus generation. With it, you will own your membership, and you will be able to come to all our events, trips and parties, as well as enjoy all the different discounts that are associated to it. You can take a look to all the discounts at our webpage, and you have local, national and international discounts (therefore you will also have discounts at your country)! The office hours depend on our volunteers’ availability. We always announce them on stories and send a reminder on the WhatsApp group. Therefore, there is no official time schedule, you have to stay tuned to our social media!

Until what day can we buy the ESNcard?

Our office hours depend on our volunteer’s availability, so the office will be closed at the end of the semester or at public holidays. Therefore, it is highly recommended to acquire the ESNcard as soon as possible, not only to fully enjoy all its discounts, but also because at the beginning of the semester we have more time to do office hours.

We always announce all the office hours on Instagram stories and via pour WhatsApp group.

How can you open a bank account as an international student?

Best cities to visit

The best cities to visit in Spain will clearly depend on your taste, as we have really different ambient on each city. If you are searching for a relaxing ambient, as well as enjoying the sun and beaches, you definitely have to go to the south. Málaga, Cádiz, Granda… all these cities are wonderful for a relaxing vacation. In the north you will be able to find some breathtaking views, although the weather is a bit rainier. For incredible environments, visit Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia or the Basque Country (little villages have more charm than big cities). Finally, for a short weekend you can go to the East of Spain, which is closer from Madrid. There you can find really fun festivities, such as the Fallas, as well as beaches. Valencia, Barcelona, Alicante… are some of the best known cities.

From Madrid it is really easy to travel anywhere, having airport, trains, buses and shared cars, with good prices (you can also find some discounts for travelling with the ESNcard)

In addition, with ESN UC3M you will be able to travel with us too, with already arranged trips and tours. We always publish a trips calendar at the beginning of the year, so save the dates!

Can you get the “Abono Joven” as a foreigner?

Sure! It is not a problem.

You have all the information here: https://tarjetatransportepublico.crtm.es/crtm-abonos/entrada.aspx

Is there any athletics club?

In each of the campuses you have a sports centre building. You can check all the details on the link below:

https://uc3m.es/deporte/centros_deportivos

Also, you can sign up for your own team with friends to play different tournaments!

How to find your classroom

In UC3M the classrooms are numerated, having a structure similar to 1.2.D01. In order to find yours, you have to follow this logic:

  • 1 (first number): number of the building. Look at your campus map and you will find the number of the buildings
  • 2 (second number): floor
  • D (letter): area inside the building. At the entrance of every building you will find a map, specifying the zones in which it is divided
  • 01 (last numbers): number of the classroom

Although the lettering may differ for each campus, the logic is always the same one

Where to ask about the learning agreement

If you are an incoming student in the UC3M, for any technical doubt concerning the university you can write to [email protected] or call to +34 91 624 95 50
